I can gladly say that the store and Mr. Ben Klinger have been most cooperative in all aspects of our music endeavor.
For example, Seattle Symphony had a sold out event called Celebrate Asia. Some people could not get a ticket or the schedule did not allow them to attend. Ben gladly collaborated with Seattle Symphony and Celebrate Asia committee to hold a special reception for the main performers at Sherman Clay Store-Seattle. The committee and the symphony took care of all the cost. Also, the store and Ben collaborated with Japanese community in promoting the performance of Seattle Symphony principle trombonist debut as a soloist at the concert which featured a new trombone concert written for him specifically. There are other examples that Mr. Ben Klinger has helped in promoting symphonic music in town. Seattle Symphony took notice of his contribution and plans to hold more receptions at the store for their donors, et al.

I hope the fact that I have, from time to time, had a professional relationship with Sherman, Clay, won't prejudice my endorsement, but actually validate it. In fact I have been a sales representative at the Seattle store in 1974-5, again in 2004-5. but also I have been a consultant, service provider, AND a customer.
In my 35-year observation of dealing with associates, customers, artists, and the the public--from top management through the store management and sales representatives--Sherman Clay defines two qualities which any successful business MUST possess: Respect and integrity. One is the result of the other, and neither can be demonstrated and achieved except over time.
In the example of Sherman, Clay over a century and a quarter, this fair dealing and stability have been enhanced by its products--always the best in their respective price levels. The 'quick sale' attitude is absent. Instead, real value for the price has resulted in permanence and stability benefiting everyone, but mostly the customer.

For a few years now my family has come to Sherman Clay Seattle a couple of times a year for my kids' piano recital. I was impressed that Sherman Clay continually provides the facilities to support local piano teachers and its managers take time to host each recital. I also got to enjoy music from a Steinway piano and was amazed how much better my children's music sounded on a Steinway over our upright at home. Late last year we decided to trade up for a Boston grand after a piano recital at Sherman Clay. Ben Klinger, the manager and the host of the recital, was very helpful and patient in educating us on the sound, tone, and actions of different pianos. He selected a few pianos for us to try after listening to our needs. Two weeks later we had our newly purchased piano at home all set up ready to be played. Our whole experience with Sherman Clay was great. Deciding which piano was the toughest part but Ben made it easier by bring the pianos into the same room so we can test them side by side. We also avoided the back and forth price negotiation because Ben offered us a very good price and a high trade-in value for our upright piano the first time. Ben also pulled some strings to have the piano prepared for delivery within a few days of purchased which spanned a major holiday. We have enjoyed our shopping experience at Sherman Clay. We look forward to the day when we will be able to trade-in our Boston for a Steinway at Sherman Clay.

Sherman Clay of Seattle is an absolutely wonderful place; both to do business with and to visit. The people are extremely kind and expert in their product knowledge; particularly Ben Klinger. We rented a beautiful grand piano for several months and had many concerts and parties with different players who all loved its sound. If you haven’t attended one of their concerts, it’s a must do! I cannot say enough positive things about every aspect of Seattle Sherman Clay. They have opened their doors and arms to me and my students for years. I have performed a number of times in their two lovely spaces, on gorgeous-sounding pianos, as have my students, both in concerts and in competitions. They host the Seattle Music Teachers meetings and provide teaching space for local teachers. Every Thursday noon they host an in-house concert. Sherman Clay has even hosted benefits for community organizations. The staff is knowledgeable and kind, never aggressive, and make it their mission to find the right piano at the right price for each customer. Each staff person not only understands the mechanism of a piano, but also that inexpressible special thing we call "sound" or "tone". Their guidance and intelligence help all of us in this community dedicated to music-making.
